Key Stage 3 (Ages 11-14)
English Language Students refine their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. They study a variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama, developing their ability to analyse and interpret meaning. Writing becomes more sophisticated as students learn to express themselves clearly in both creative and formal compositions. Mathematics Focuses on developing fluency in numerical operations, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability. Students build on their understanding of mathematical concepts and apply them to real-world contexts, enhancing their problem-solving and logical reasoning skills. Science Students study the three disciplines—biology, chemistry, and physics—learning about scientific principles, conducting experiments, and developing investigative and analytical skills. Through practical applications and theoretical study, students gain a deeper understanding of the natural world and the role of science in society. History Helps students develop an understanding of historical events, civilizations, and cultural changes. They learn to evaluate primary and secondary sources, form historical arguments, and draw connections between past events and their impact on the modern world. Geography Students explore both physical and human geography, studying topics such as climate change, ecosystems, globalisation, and natural disasters. They develop skills in map reading, fieldwork, and data analysis, gaining an appreciation of how geographical factors influence human activity and the environment. Art Encourages students to develop their creativity through various artistic techniques, media, and historical movements. They learn to appreciate different styles of art, express their own ideas visually, and explore the cultural significance of artistic works. Music students study composition, performance, and appreciation, exploring musical traditions from different cultures and historical periods. They develop technical skills in playing instruments, understanding notation, and analysing music theory. Students have the opportunity to learn either French or Spanish, developing their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the chosen language. The curriculum also introduces cultural aspects, helping students gain a broader global perspective while improving their communication abilities. PE plays a crucial role in promoting physical health and well-being. Students participate in a range of sports and physical activities, improving their fitness, coordination, and teamwork. They also learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition and mental well-being. As technology continues to shape the world, Computing & ICT equips students with essential digital literacy skills. They learn about programming, computational thinking, cybersecurity, and responsible use of technology. The curriculum encourages students to develop their coding abilities while understanding the broader role of technology in society.Core Subjects
