Key Stage 1 (Ages 5-7)
Key Stage 1 (Year 1 & Year 2):
In Key Stage 1, students lay the foundation for their future learning in English and mathematics.
In Year 1, English instruction focuses on phonics, basic reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting skills. Mathematics introduces core concepts like addition, subtraction, patterns, and shapes. Students also begin exploring other subjects, such as science, geography, history, art, and music, with a focus on fostering curiosity through simple inquiry-based activities.
By Year 2, students deepen their English skills, expanding their vocabulary, improving sentence structure, and refining their spelling and grammar. Mathematics advances to include multiplication, subtraction, fractions, and telling time, while students continue exploring science and begin learning a foreign language. Inquiry-based learning becomes more structured as students ask deeper questions about their topics and make connections between subjects.
